Personal Life and Early Life
Edward Regan Murphy was born on April 3, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. His mother worked as a telephone operator, while his father was a transit officer and amateur comic. Eddie’s father died when he was eight years old, which was tragic. When his mother became temporarily unwell, he and his older brother Charlie Murphy were placed in foster care. His mother healed and finally married.
Eddie was raised by his mother and stepfather in Roosevelt, New York, where he acquired a passion in comedy and could generally create and execute his own performance. Murphy began his career as a comedian, and he was notoriously recognized in the 1980s for making audiences laugh with his risqué stand-up shows. Eddie made his big-screen debut in 48 Hours in 1982, while still on SNL (Saturday Night Live).
Following that, he had a string of big hits such as Trading Places, the Beverly Hills Cop movie, Coming to America, Harlem Nights, and Another 48 Hours. Murphy’s box-office attraction fell significantly in the 1990s, but he was resurrected with a succession of family-friendly films, including Mulan, the Shrek trilogy, Dreamgirls, and the Nutty Professor films.
Eddie Murphy currently resides on Long Island, New York, and has nine children. He has dated numerous women, married two of them and subsequently divorcing them. He has been dating model Paige Butcher since 2012, and the couple has a kid together.
