Jennifer Lopez

Personal Life and Early Life

Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born in the New York City neighborhood of the Bronx on July 24, 1969. Her parents are Puerto Ricans, Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. Leslie, her older sister, and Lynda, her younger sister, are her siblings. Her father was a night shift worker at an insurance company. Her mother worked as a stay-at-home mom. Jennifer was born in the Castle Hill district, where the family was living in a modest flat. Her parents purchased a two-story home a few years later.

Jennifer began taking singing and dance lessons when she was five years old. Her parents pushed their three girls to put on concerts at home — singing and dancing in front of each other and their friends – in order to keep out of trouble. Lopez attended Catholic schools throughout her academic career. She participated in gymnastics, ran track on a national level, and was a member of her high school’s softball team.

During her final year of high school, Lopez auditioned for and was cast in the low-budget independent film My Little Girl. JLo realized she wanted to be a big Hollywood actress after this event. Her parents believed it was a “very foolish” notion because “no Latinos did it.” To appease her parents, she enrolled in Baruch College but dropped out after the first semester.

She moved to Manhattan following a falling out with her parents, who were pressuring her to continue her study at college despite her desire to become a movie star.

Lopez has been involved in several high-profile relationships. She’s been in relationships with Sean Combs, Ben Affleck, and backing dancer Casper Smart. She had three marriages. In 1997, Lopez wed Ojani Noa. In 1998, they separated. After that, in 2001, she married a backup dancer called Cris Judd, but they divorced in 2003. In 2004, she married singer Marc Anthony, with whom she had fraternal twins (a son and a daughter) born in 2008. Lopez divorced Anthony in 2011. Since 2017, she has been dating Alex Rodriguez, a retired baseball player. In March of 2019, they got engaged.
